Samuel Green (Freedman) 1802-1877
In 1857, Samuel Green(Freedman) of Dorchester County, Maryland was sentenced to serve 10 years in the Maryland Penitentiary for possession of a copy of the book "Uncle Toms Cabin"- which was popular among people who were for the abolishment of slavery. Slave holders in Dorchester County were losing slaves to the "Underground Railroad" and sought revenge.
